Our Roots

Born from a love of timber and time.

At Whittle & Grain, every shaving of wood and stroke of the brush is guided by a simple belief: toys should be as beautiful as they are durable. We began with a single hand-carved piece, and that same dedication to craftsmanship shapes our entire collection today.

The First Block

A Quiet Corner in Münster

It started in a small, dusty workshop with a single block of untreated beechwood and a set of inherited carving tools. The goal wasn’t to build a business, but to create a gift that would outlast the fleeting trends of plastic playthings.

That first wooden horse took weeks to perfect. Learning the grain, understanding how the wood yields to the blade, and finding the perfect natural oils to bring out its warmth became an obsession.

Word soon spread to neighbours and friends. Before long, that quiet corner turned into a bustling hub of creativity, and Whittle & Grain was officially established.

Meet the Maker

Every piece in our collection passes through hands that know the material intimately. I believe that children deserve toys that tell a story—toys that feel grounded, heavy, and real.

My approach to toy-making is slow and deliberate. By selecting sustainable timber and finishing each piece with child-safe, plant-based waxes, I ensure that the final product is not only beautiful but completely safe for curious hands and mouths.

When you hold a Whittle & Grain piece, you are holding hours of careful shaping, sanding, and polishing. It is a true labour of love.

Our Philosophy

Crafted for Generations

Absolute Safety

We use only non-toxic, child-safe paints and natural beeswax finishes. Every edge is rounded and sanded to smooth perfection, giving parents total peace of mind.

Sustainable Sourcing

Our timber is sourced from responsibly managed forests. We minimise waste in the workshop, turning smaller offcuts into building blocks and decorative accents.

Open-Ended Play

Our designs are intentionally simple. Without flashing lights or automated sounds, the toys invite children to use their own imagination, fostering deep, creative play.
